Children and staff at Busy Bees, Leapfrog and TLC Nurseries across the UK have teamed up with Usborne Books to celebrate National Storytelling Week from the 1st – 5th February.

National Storytelling Week is an event held by the Society for Storytelling, which promotes the benefits reading has on society, and aims to encourage people of all ages to pick up a book and start reading!

Throughout the week, children at the nurseries will be taking part in lots of storytelling events such as a ‘Book Swap Shop’, which gives parents the opportunity to bring in their unwanted books and swap them for other parents’ unwanted books, a ‘Dress up as your Favourite Character Day’, and a magical storytelling session. Earlier this month a bookmark design competition was organised for the nursery children to enter, making the three winning designs into bookmarks to distribute to around 16,000 children at Busy Bees nurseries across the country during National Storytelling Week.

The nurseries are also working with Usborne Books as part of “Ready Steady…Read!” a sponsored event which encourages children to read as much as they can during National Storytelling Week. All the money raised will go towards purchasing new books for the nursery, which will be supplied at a special rate by Usborne Books.

Usborne Books team up with Busy Bees Childcare for National Storytelling WeekMarg Randles, Operations Director at Busy Bees said “Reading is a great way for children to improve their speech and grammar, and storytelling really helps to stimulate their imagination and creative development.

It’s great that we have Usborne Books involved in our celebrations as they produce great fun and educational books for young children, and understand the importance reading has on child development.”

Usborne’s Managing Director Lorna Hunt adds, “We are delighted to be a part of this very important reading initiative driven by Busy Bees. Their goal of helping children with reading and supporting parents and preschools in doing so, is also at the heart of what we do through Usborne books and our Usborne Books at Home Organisers.”
