Busy Bees Supports DKH Legacy Trust

Busy Bees Supports DKH Legacy Trust

Busy Bees is delighted to announce that we will be supporting the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, (DKH Legacy Trust), throughout 2012. The charity helps give young people in need of support a role model to look up to and be inspired by, someone to help them make the most of their talents and abilities.

The DKH Legacy Trust’s aim is to create life chances for young people who, through no fault of their own, fail to have the help or support they need to be the best that they can be. The DKH Legacy Trust offers world class sporting role models and the environment of sport to raise the aspirations of these young people.

The charity uses a team of Olympians, Paralympians, World, Commonwealth and European Champions to inspire young people, as they know what it takes to overcome adversity and to succeed.

The DKH Legacy Trust hold many campaigns throughout the year that help change young people’s lives, including ‘Unlocking Potential’ which supports young sports performers who are aiming to make the next step up in sport, ‘Aspiring Minds’, to help raise the educational and career aspirations of young people with severe learning and physical disabilities, and ‘Get on Track’, working in partnership with Haringey Council to support young people from a pupil referral unit in North London.

Busy Bees Nurseries across the UK will be raising money for the DKH Legacy Trust by holding a variety of activities throughout 2012, including the Golden Mile Challenge, an interactive fitness challenge that children can really get involved in. Every child attending Busy Bees nurseries will be challenged to complete 2, 4, 6 and eventually 8 miles of physical activity over the next year.

The Busy Bees Golden Mile was launched at Busy Bees in Sudbury Hill, featuring a very special Olympian guest and DKH Legacy Trust founder, Dame Kelly Holmes! Dame Kelly joined the children as they began their first laps towards completing their ‘Golden Mile’ in the Sudbury Hill nursery garden.

Busy Bees is the only independent provider of nursery care to be taking part in this unique physical activity initiative, which encourages families to keep fit and healthy.

The challenge is to encourage children’s friends and family to sponsor them for every Golden Mile they complete, helping to raise lots of money across Busy Bees for the charity.

Marg Randles, Operations Director at Busy Bees, is looking forward to supporting the charity, “Here at Busy Bees, we believe that every child has a right to a bright future. Whatever their dreams and aspirations may be, they should be nurtured and encouraged.

“We believe that adults need to be good role models to children influenced by their actions, and it’s a theory we actively implement into our nurseries. Just as our Childcare workers are role models to the children in their care, the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust provides children with elite sports performers to help raise their aspirations and ensure they have a bright future ahead of them.”
