First Aid for Pre-school
Today at nursery the Rainbow children met Henry. Henry is a 3 year old boy toy character who gets into all sorts of scrapes. Henry has been designed by the Norwegian Red Cross and is used by many schools and pre-school settings in Norway. We were very lucky today for Henry to visit and be introduce by Mr Morallee, one of the Preschool Grandparents.
Working in small groups the children discussed different accident scenario's. The children all took part in role playing the scene as Henry, his friends and the adult. We discussed a bike accident where Henry had cut and grazed his knee and falling off a climbing frame which left a bump on his head.
This experience is not to teach children to administer First Aid but to give them a better understanding of when you are hurt what to do in asking for help and staying calm. Children's fear of blood and First Aid treatment is sometimes more upsetting than the injury itself.
The children had lots of fun and the group that took part was able to share their experience with the rest of the class during carpet time. We are hoping for Henry to visit the room again sharing his stories about injuries and accidents.
