Gold Award for Healthy Eating

Leapfrog Day Nursery in Chelmsford is proud to be the first business in Chelmsford to be awarded Chelmsford Borough Council’s Gold Award for Healthy Eating. It is an award for businesses that provide food who are willing to promote and serve healthy foods.
In order to be awarded this the nursery had to demonstrate how it supports and promotes healthy eating with the children.
The standards required are;
- To keep the level of fat and oil to a minimum in the food that we serve.
- To make fruit and vegetables clearly available.
- To keep the level of sugar to a minimum in the food that we serve.
- To make starchy foods the main part of most meals.
- To provide healthy and nutritious food for children.
- To keep the level of salt to a minimum in the food that we serve.
- To make sure that 50% of the food that we serve is clearly described as meeting healthy choice requirements i.e using healthier ingredients and cooking methods.
