Welcome to the Busy Bees Golden Mile physical activity initiative. We want Busy Bees Nurseries across the UK to get involved in this exciting, fun activity. It’s so simple; every child attending the nursery will be challenged to complete 8 miles of physical activity in the year. We’ll reward and support the children with special certificates along the way. Each nursery will receive some great resources to help them. Additionally, the children will also be challenged to raise money for a great cause.
Why?
Busy Bees understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and we believe that we can shape future generations by introducing them to fitness that is not only energetic, but fun too!
By introducing ‘The Golden Mile’ into our nurseries, we hope to bring to the children an interactive fitness challenge that they can really get involved in. The Golden Mile has been developed with child development and stimulation in mind, and encourages children aged two and over to not only complete their miles, but think about how they can be carried out, whether it be running, skipping, or jumping. The Golden Miles challenge also encourages them to interact with their peers, and keep a record of their progress throughout the year. This is a challenge that the whole family can get involved in, as miles can be completed at home, as well as in nursery.
Everyone taking part will find the programme rewarding. Physical activity brings all sorts of benefits, such as confidence and stronger self-esteem, more energy, better memory, and simply a good feeling about themselves— The Busy Bees Golden Mile will help achieve this.
As well as the health benefits outlined, we’ll also reward each child with a certificate when they reach the following:

2 miles = Bronze award certificate
6miles = Silver award certificate
8 miles = Gold award certificate
Don’t worry; each child will have a year to complete their Golden Miles. There is also a very special 10 Golden Miles PLATINUM certificate, awarded to children that go beyond their 8 Golden Miles.
