Grow your Own, 2011 winners
The children in our Pre-School room took part in an initiative called ‘Grow your own’. All nurseries took part, in looking at the benefits of healthy eating by growing their own fruit and vegetables. Children were involved in planting, watering, tasting and seeing their own produce grow and many other exciting activities to benefit a healthy lifestyle.
The children worked closely with the nursery chef, staff and parents. The children took their home grown flowers to a care home, sold carrots at a local farmers shop and the money raised went to our charity.
The children really enjoyed getting their hands dirty, especially when they got to use the gardening tools. The children also enjoyed taking a magic bean home to grow!
In April 2011 the children entered the competition and found out the nursery were joint winners and the money won will be spent on the outdoor environment.
