Children working in their nursery garden as part of the Change4Life initiative

This year, Busy Bees have partnered up with Change4Life, a national campaign run by the Department of Health, to support and encourage our families in their mission to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.

These days, 'modern life' can mean that we're a lot less active. With so many opportunities to watch TV or play computer games, and with so much convenience and fast food available, we don't move about as much, or eat as well as we used to. For children, this means that they could grow up with dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies - so it’s really important that we do something about it!

During July, Busy Bees Nurseries across the country held a ‘Change4Life Activity Fortnight’, which included lots of lively activities for the children that were not only fun, but active and healthy too! We even attempted to break a world record, as staff and children dressed up as honey bees for the day. We are in the process of gathering all the evidence together, so watch this space!

Children playing in the garden of their nursery as part of the Change4Life initiative for a more active lifestyleBusy Bees distributed around 16,000 ‘Busy Bees Change4Life’ packs to parents within the nurseries. The unique pack included Change4Life material, including a ‘5-a-day’ sticker chart and a ‘Top Tips’ booklet, as well as vegetable seeds to plant over the summer months, and a healthy eating recipe, specially created by celebrity chef, Phil Vickery. All this was nicely packed in a fair-trade, organically produced cotton shopper bag, which can be re-used as an alternative to un-environmentally friendly plastic carrier bags.

The Merlin Entertainment Group have kindly supported our efforts by donating vouchers for family days out to three of the top UK attractions; Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures and LEGOLAND Windsor. Cow and Gate also donated money off vouchers and samples of healthy, balanced baby food to for us give out to our parents.
