The children within our Pre-school room had great fun with our chick experience and had great learning opportunities. We had ten fertilised eggs delivered to nursery with all the equipment needed to hatch the eggs. Our first chick hatched only the day after we had them delivered and the children and some parents had delight in watching him hatch. We then had three more hatch the day after in the view of our children. Altogether we had all ten chicks hatch with 3 of them being female. The children were very hands on with the chicks being able to hold them and learning about the importance of hand washing after handling the chicks. All ten chicks were given names chosen by the children. The three female chicks have been re-homed with Sarah one of our Pre-school staff and all the male chicks will be re-homed by the Living eggs company.
