Police Officer Takes on Europe for Busy Bees Charity

Over the last few months, Busy Bees Day Nurseries across the country have been sponsoring local Police Officer, Simon Ellis, as he attempts to complete an exciting tour around Europe, to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Simon, whose wife is Leapfrog Nursery Manager at Guiseley in Leeds, has named his rally ‘Busy Bees’. The journey starts on 12th September, just a few miles south of Calais, France, where teams from across the UK will gather in anticipation of the arduous route that lies ahead. From France, the route will take the participants East to Koblenz in Germany, before heading down through the picturesque scenery of the Rhine to Switzerland. From there, Simon will travel to Davos for the start of the ‘World’s best driving road’, as featured on Top Gear. The mountain road, known as the ‘Slovenian Pass’, will lead the driving teams to Merano, ‘City of Flowers’, in Italy, then onto Lake Bled in Slovenia, the famous glacier lake overlooked by the iconic Bled Castle. Nearing the end of their expedition, the travellers will drive to Olomouc in the Czech Republic, finally finishing their extensive journey in Krakow in Poland.
The total sponsored route covers approximately 1575 miles, and children from Busy Bees Nurseries will be joining in by charting Simon’s progress through regular reports from him as he motors along.
Money raised from the rally will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Busy Bees’ corporate charity for 2009. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK’s only national charity dedicated to all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis, and gives support to people with the condition, providing daily physiotherapy and medication. The trust is funding groundbreaking medical trials that aim to provide a life saving treatment for people with Cystic Fibrosis.
Simon said, "he journey certainly isn’t for the faint hearted, but it’s a fantastic experience that allows me to raise money for a very worthy cause. I just hope my £200 car will have the strength to drive me through the complete route!"
