Summer Hens
Back In April this year (2011) we successfully hatched 10 Easter Chicks, photos of which can be seen in the news archive accessed from the Salford homepage.
One of the members of staff at Salford was delighted when she asked to keep the chickens that she was allowed to keep all ten. Two of those chickens, now hens, recently came in and visted us so that the children could see how they had grown and changed. Please take a look at some of our photos. The children really enjoyed following the hens around, stroking them and feeding them corn. They were amazed that they were now brown and rather large!!
Shortly the hens will start to lay eggs and these will be brought into the nursery for the children to see and understand that they can be cooked in various ways and eaten.
