World Food Tasting Sessions
With a nod of recognition to World Religion Day 2012, today we explored foods eaten by different cultures around the World by setting up some food taster sessions.
The children were given the opportunity to try some more unusual and exotic fruits, such as Mango (known as Aam in Hindi), Pineapple (known as Ananas in Hindi) and Papaya (known as Paneeta in Hindi) and Pomegranate (known as Anar in Hindi). Fruits bear a lot of symbolism in various religions. Did you know for example that Pomegranates have symbolic references in Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Hindu cultures? There is more to these 5-a-days than meets the eye!
The sessions were also a delicious, but equally vitamin-packed alternative for the children from the usual staple fruits of Apples, Bananas and Oranges etc.
The children were also encouraged to look out for these different types of fruit next time they visit the supermarket.
With Chinese New Year coming up, some children were also offered the opportunity to try prawn crackers!
