London Excel - The Busy Bees torch relay finale

26th July 2012

Luckily for everyone I did manage to sleep and I also managed to wake up in time for a quick flight to Busy Bees in London ExCel.  Oh, the weather was GLORIOUS, and what an exciting day we all had.  Lots and lots of Busy Bees' staff from the Midlands came along to watch, including Marg Randles who actually started Busy Bees way back in the 1980’s and is now Managing Director, as I handed over the torch to Duncan Goodhew and the children.  We even had the Mayor of Tower Hamlets come along to support us as well as the Golden Mile team who wanted to make sure we were doing our Golden Miles properly. The children still had time for cuddles and fun with me.  After a day of sports races, face-painting, bouncy castle fun and playing with giant bubbles I was ready for my lovely lunch, I can tell you!  And whoever came up with the idea for mango sorbets deserves a medal.  Duncan gave a lovely speech and congratulated all the nursery staff and mummy’s and daddy’s for helping deliver their children’s passions and dreams and encouraging them to be fit and healthy and enjoy their sports at such a young age.  Then he kindly signed photos and presented each and every child with a special medal – I actually got to wear Duncan’s Olympic Gold medal but it was so heavy I had to give it him back.  Before the children said goodbye to Duncan they presented him with a lovely Good Luck book full of their own drawings of each sport to take to our Olympians and Paralympians who are all living together at the Olympic Village.  Phew, my work here is done for a while, but I will be watching the children over the next few months as they continue to run, leap and swim their way through their Golden Miles to raise money for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust. To be continued….

London Skies!

25th July 2012

I had a very special day today flying over London and making my way to my final destination – I met a lot of children who were coming to London for the very first time to see the Olympics.  What fun and how nice to catch a glimpse of the dress rehearsal for Friday’s big London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.  I could hardly get to sleep wondering about our very own grand finale with one of my all time favourite Olympian’s Duncan Goodhew!

Hammersmith

24th July 2012

We had another incredibly sunny day at Busy Bees at Hammersmith.  On arrival I was very hot and thirsty but I was taken into the most beautifully cool room in London where I had a lovely drink of water and some fruit with the Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, my old friend, four times British Taekwondo Champion Romaine Bailey from Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust and some lovely ladies from a very special magazine called 'Nursery World'.  The children had also invited their parents and grandparents so there was a really good buzz at the nursery which, being a bee, I really appreciate. They asked me for my photograph and an autograph for their Bunny who writes their blog and then they joined the children in the lovely shady park for a wonderful morning of physical exercises, games and sports activities including hockey and football. The Mayor and Romaine presented all of us with our medals for our wonderful efforts and then we went back to our lovely cool room for a fabulous feast of sandwiches, fresh fruit and a beautiful Olympic cake.
