Busy Bees at Colton Mill opened in September 2003. The development is a brand-new, purpose-built children's day nursery with 12 bright and spacious rooms.

The nursery is situated in the grounds of Colton's original mill, and is 5 miles from Leeds City Centre. It can be reached from junction 46 of the M1 extension.

We provide quality childcare and have an extensive range of stimulating and educational equipment and activities. Healthy and nutritious meals are freshly prepared on the premises daily, and our spacious secure outdoor play area includes climbing frames, a playhouse, and other outdoor equipment to develop children's physical skills.

Opening Times

Mon-Fri: 7.30am-6.00pm

Annual Holidays

The nursery will be closed on all bank holidays and weekends.

Activities Noticeboard

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum

We follow the EYFS curriculum which plans activities around the needs and development stage of the individual child.

We provide a wide range of stimulating and enjoyable educational activities around all the areas of learning. We are continuously providing opportunities for children to enjoy role play and dressing up, sand and water play, sensory and heuristic play, junk and clay modelling, music and movement, mathematical and construction play, small world and creative activities such as sponge painting, play dough, sticking and gluing.

It is important to us that the children enjoy just as many activities in our outdoors secure play area too.

Some examples of other special activities that we provide are:

  • Animal-handling workshops
  • Science Workshops e.g. hatching chicks, exploring dinosaurs
  • Trips to local areas of interest, e.g. library, farms, museums, parks
  • Cooking activities and guest chefs
  • Charity Events and theme days
  • Drama and puppet shows
  • Specialist music, such as African drumming workshops
  • Nature activities, such as planting and growing seeds
  • Dance workshops and discos

In association with ‘ABC Music and Me’ Kindermusik lessons are now also offered at our nursery.
