About our Nursery

playing with bucket and spade

Busy Bees at Lostock Hall is a purpose built nursery serving the needs of families in the area. The nursery is divided into three bright, stimulating rooms, a baby room, spacious toddler room with access to a wide range of activities including sand and water play, painting and messy play, and a large pre-school room.

Children are encouraged to participate in topic led activities to develop different areas of learning, which are focussed on the ‘Birth to Three Matters’ framework and the Foundation stage.

The nursery has two separate play areas for younger and older children with age appropriate toys and equipment. The outdoor play areas are secure and can only be accessed through the nursery.

The centre offers nursery education for children from 3 months - 5 years. School and holiday care provision is also available in nearby facilities created to meet the needs of this age group.

Activities Noticeboard

playing with pastaAt Busy Bees, we value you as your child's prime educator and aim to become active partners with you in your child's continuing process of education.

As you know, young children are active and eager to learn and delight in discovering their world. Both the content of what children learn and the way in which learning takes place and is experienced by a child is important.

We emphasise first-hand experiences and view play and talk as powerful mediums through which children learn and develop. Our team of skilled and knowledgeable staff hold high expectations of all children. We build on your child's interest, abilities and earlier experiences by sensitive intervention and involvement.

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and relevant to all children. It is appropriate to their social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual development and incorporates all government guidelines.

As a team, we regularly monitor, review and evaluate our work in order to maintain and achieve high standards, By continually observing children, we are able to base our plans around their individual needs.

2006 Initiative

home grown vegetablesThroughout 2006 the children have been working very hard on their garden project.  First of all we took the children for a trip out to our local garden centre were they chose what flowers, seeds and shoots they would need.  When they got back they set to work planting them. They bought pumpkin seeds, marrows, herbs, beetroot, chillies, sweet peas and rhubarb amongst other things.

As you can see the garden was a success, the children were able to see how much their pumpkins, marrows and chillies had grown each week.  The pumpkins were used for Halloween; first of all they did observational drawings on them, then they were able to cut them up to make Halloween lanterns. We have used our herbs to develop our senses and once we had picked our carrots we washed them and cut them up for snack time!
