Based within the grounds of Wansbeck General Hospital. Kids 1st in Ashington provides a safe environment for your little ones to grow, develop and thrive. When you walk through the doors of this Northumberland day nursery, you're warmly greeted by welcoming classrooms and playrooms.

We have multiple rooms, split out by age group, so there's plenty of space for toddlers and pre-schoolers to learn and play comfortably at their own pace. We have a dedicated baby unit too, so if you’re looking for infant childcare in Ashington, you can rest assured they’re getting the close attention they deserve.

Throughout your child's day at our Northumberland nursery, our staff organise activities aimed at making these early years lots of fun while still also encouraging development. This could involve anything from reading their favourite stories to role playing in the toy kitchen or running wild in our large outdoor space.

Kids 1st Ashington follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which has been designed to help set your children up for the next step in their education. Our parent room is a dedicated safe space for us to get to know your family and you to speak in confidence with our nursery team about your child's nursery life.

Smart Board
Our Interactive Smart Board is used daily to bring learning to life and provides children with a hands-on approach with technology.

Funded Childcare
We offer government funded places for children aged 3 to 4 years, please speak to the Centre Director for more information.

Teacher
We have a fully qualified Teacher in our pre-school room who delivers exciting learning opportunities, whilst ensuring statutory and legal welfare requirements are met for every child.

Foundation Class
The foundation class nurtures each child's natural curiosity within a structured framework providing pre-school children with an early introduction to school life.

ParentZone
We keep families informed through ParentZone, an online learning journal platform, which can be accessed via a smartphone app.

UP
Exclusive to Busy Bees, UP is a learning and development app used by educators in our nursery and parents at home. Search ‘UP by Busy Bees’ on the app store to find out more.

We offer online booking for extra ad-hoc sessions at this nursery with Pebble.

Food at Kids 1st - Wansbeck

At Kids 1st your child will be able to enjoy a variety of delicious and nutritious meals, snacks, and drinks – all prepared on-site by our nursery chef. They’re included within the fees you pay. 

Here’s an example of the food featured on one of our NHS-accredited seasonal menus: 

Breakfast

Fresh fruit with a selection of cereal or porridge 

Morning Snack

Fresh fruit with wholemeal toast or baked goods, served with a cup of milk or water 

Lunch

Salmon fish fingers or veggie fingers served with potato wedges and mushy peas, with banana and sultanas for dessert 

Afternoon Snack

Fresh fruit or vegetable sticks served with a cup of milk or water 

Early Evening Snack

Wraps with a choice of fillings and tomato wedges, with yoghurt and berries for dessert

In order to best prepare the children for the next big chapter of their lives, Busy Bees do all that they can to support and celebrate the transition. Kids 1st Nursery Ashington Location

Our Ashington children’s nursery is situated on the grounds of Wansbeck General Hospital, on the outskirts of the town. 

We have an on-site car parking for parents to pick up and drop off their children. 

There’s also a convenient bus stop right outside the main entrance to the hospital – it’s served by buses on the 1, X20 MAX and X21 Sapphire routes. When you arrive, you’ll find our nursery in Northumberland just a two-minute walk away.

"Kids 1st is fabulous. We first sent our little girl when she was 15 months and she just adores it. She goes 2 days a week. The staff are fantastic, so caring and consistent and they really get to know your kids and that means a lot for parents. The manager Rachel is brilliant, she’s very hands on and she handles any queries or worries quickly and efficiently. Communication is brilliant with the app for updates and photos of your children aswell as updates for parents to know about being well publicised both online and in the centre. Recommend, thoroughly."
