'Steps to Independence' is a unique programme developed by Busy Bees, which is designed to encourage children to develop as individuals. Children are introduced to a series of fun activities designed to build confidence and a sense of individuality through 'Smiffy' the germ, a fun and furry children's character unique to Busy Bees. 'Smiffy' encourages children to use a variety of cleaning equipment to provide a germ free and safe environment.
Children take part in fun activities such as a role play garden centre, where the little ones can play at sweeping, watering plants and planting seeds, as well as group discussions on germs and why it's important to wash your hands. Children also have the opportunity to take part in activities that encourage independence, like helping to clean tables and toys, and sweeping the floor.
The nurseries work in partnership with their local communities, inviting Health Visitors, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals into nursery to talk to the children about hygiene. The nurseries also record the children's experiences by taking photographs and making scrapbooks.
Busy Bees believes that independence is a vital and exciting part of a young child's life. It is critical that children have new freedoms and responsibilities, as and when they are ready to cope with them. Development is best experiences presented while young, and the nursery will help provide these experiences during play throughout the child's day.
