The children in Poppies were engaged in a pre-planned activity which investigated the properties of objects and encouraged then to talk about what would happen to them when submerged in water.
What a great opportunity to develop the use of mathematical language and concepts. The children talked about size and weight and were encouraged to predict whether selected objects would float or sink.
Children were then able to put the objects in the water and watched what happened.
This activity proved very popular and we put the activity on display in the reception area for the other children to explore with their parents. We had some lovely comments from parents about the activity and how the children had been talking about it at home too.
