The Pre-School children used numbers in play to develop their mathematical understanding to support the children with developing their recognition of numbers.
The children had gingerbread men cut outs with numbers and colours to decorate and draw their own buttons on to it. They then spoke about their numbers and which were which. This is an enhancement which our nursery supports to develop mathematical skills. This is following research which shows a quarter of children in England failed to achieve the expected level in mathematics at the end of the early years foundation stage between 2014 and 2015. This enhancement is the problem solving to mathematics.
