Today at Busy Bees Bury St Edmunds, we have been celebrating International Fire Fighters Day in style!
We had a very special visit from our Local Fire Fighters, who very kindly brought their Fire Engine for the children to see. The Fire Fighters spoke to the children about their work and their uniform and safety equipment. The children asked many questions and told the Fire Fighters information that they had learnt during the week. Some of the responses are below:
Cal - "Where are your Jaws of Life? These save people from cars when they are trapped."
Edmund - "Matches and Lighters are dangerous. They start fires."
Louie - "Where does the water come from?"
The Fire Fighters also demonstrated how a fire alarm works and asked the children if they all had one at home. Edmund pointed out to them that we also have one in our Pre-School Room too. The children were able to try on their special protective helmet as well.
We then all got to go outside and look around the Fire Engine. The children were able to sit inside and see what equipment was in there. Cal got to talk on the Walkey Talkey to Fireman Simon. He said "Hello". The children were then able to walk around the Fire Engine, talking about the hoses, ladders and special bright lights they use, before all being able to have a turn using one of the hoses to spray water. It was great fun!!
The children have been very busy this week creating a special thank you for the Fire Fighters, using paint, drawings and writing to create a lovely picture for them to take back to the Fire Station. The Fire Fighters loved it!
A very special visit for a group of very excited Pre-School Children.
