Following some children's interest in 'The Jungle Book', Tuhina (staff member) printed some images of the characters from the movie along with some quotes and questions. Tuhina gathered some play animals that would represent the main characters of the story and set them out on a table in the base room. The children were provided with magnifying glasses so they could explore and look at the animals features.
Tuhina and her colleague, Lorraine, also printed the words off to the 'Bare necessities' song and sang with the children as a group. The children were really excited and loved singing along to some of the familiar words. Even more successful was when they played the song on the CD player and the children started re-enacting moves from the movies where Baloo rubs against a tree!
William and Jude were rubbing their backs up against each other and William said: "We're scratching our backs like the bears!".
When the staff asked which character the children wanted to be Dylan told them: "I want to be happy and funny just like Baloo!".
The children enjoyed dancing and imitating what moves animals make and talked about what animals do, eat and their habitats.
Lorraine and Tuhina then took the children outside to read the Jungle Book story in our outside classroom.
