Notting Hill Carnival Week
Meredale Day Nursery celebrated Notting Hill Carnival with a week full of activities.
The children created their own masks using either templates or paper plates. They used a range of resources to decorate them like paint, brightly coloured feathers and gems, sequins and glitter. Once they were happy with their creations they got to wear them and our pre school room even paraded around their room while dancing.
With strips of card measured to fit around the tops of their heads, the children proceeded to use glue and bright coloured tissue paper as well as pencils and crayons to decorate their pieces. They used inspiration from pictures of recent carnivals and celebrations.
Toddler room created colourful paper chains and had lots of fun getting sticky while gluing them together to make our own decorations.
Toddlers and Pre School room also played two very different types of Hoopla. Pre School children were encouraged to throw the hoop over the cone on their turn while Toddler’s decorated their bottles in bright colours and took turns in trying to throw the rings over.
The whole nursery joined together on Friday for one big Carnival Parade and party! The children came together to celebrate the carnival with music, dancing and food. There was a range of different musical instruments for them to explore plus a procession to show off their face masks and headbands. Tea was a typical Caribbean theme catered for by our onsite chef Tracy.
All the children had great fun this week and it was a joy to see all the children dressed brightly in recognition of this.
