Published Poems by Little Ones at Thorley Park
Children at Busy Bees Day Nursery at Thorley Park have become 'published writers' after winning a competition to feature their poems in the children’s book, 'My 1st Poem'. The book features poetry written by nursery and school children across the East of England, and includes poems by children attending Busy Bees at Thorley Park.
The competition, run by ‘My 1st Poem’, complies with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) government framework, which all registered nurseries follow. Writing the poetry encouraged the children to be active learners and develop their own unique creativity, using their imagination and thoughts to develop their own work.
Staff at the nursery are overwhelmed at the children’s success in the competition, and are very proud of all the little ones who entered it. Nursery Manager, Teresa Huntingford, said “All the children in the nursery worked very hard on their poems and it was a great way to inspire their imaginations. Having poems featured in the book was a great bonus.”
The poem featured below in ‘My 1st Poem’ was written by Matthew Wade (Aged 4)
