Last week our 3-5 year olds were trying a selection of fruit as a part of our nursery’s commitment to encouraging healthy eating habits.
Children tried a selection of familiar and more unusual fruit, including pear, grape, banana, pineapple and lime. Sitting together around a table our pre-schoolers were encouraged to find the right piece of fruit in their bowl and try it together with their friends before talking about what it tasted like and comparing it to other fruit they already tried.
Getting your child to eat a variety of different foods can be a tricky task, if you have a picky eater. Trying new foods together with a group of friends can make a big difference and encourage even the fussiest child to eat their meal. The fun snack-time activity encouraged our children to try new tastes in a relaxed and engaging way as well as learn to recognise different fruit before and after they are peeled and cut.
Heidi Cassidy, our nursery manager said: “We recognise the importance of getting right eating habits off to a good start from early age. We are proud to offer healthy, seasonal menu, full of nutrients essential to support children’s growth and development. Children are also supported in learning good table manners, independent eating and discovering new foods.”
