Looking for childcare in Derby? Our beautifully presented nursery is a purpose built two-storey day care setting designed to meet both children’s and parents’ needs. 

The qualified and experienced staff go above and beyond the EYFS statutory framework. Our aim is to maximise the potential of every child and set the foundations for lifelong learning. We do this through a combination of child-led and creative play, introducing gentle routine and structure as children progress through the nursery. 

The nursery is fully equipped and split into four key age and stage appropriate rooms to accommodate children’s various developmental needs. A secure and self-contained Baby Room on the first floor offers a unique homely environment designed to promote a familiar and reassuring environment that makes the settling-in process as smooth as possible. We strive to develop happy, independent and confident children with a wide range of educational and social skills. At Busy Bees Derby Oakwood Bishops Drive, we embrace a diverse range of activities, from messy play and imaginative role-playing to essential pre-school subjects like phonics, literacy, and foundational mathematics. We also offer offer PE sessions for preschool children as part of a school readiness programme to get them fully prepped for the next part of their education adventure. 

Our long-established team maintain strong links with the community. Children regularly go out and about in the community on trips to local parks, children centres and to Springwood Library for story-time and reading sessions. The younger children also get to enjoy visits out in the community with our unique buggy bus. Our preschool children tend to go on to neighbouring schools Cavendish Close, Park View, Breadsall Hilltop, Roe Farm and Springwood. 

Children at Busy Bees Derby Oakwood Bishops Drive enjoy extracurricular activities at our secure, cosy garden and additional spacious hall. We offer football lessons for preschool children, designed to stimulate imagination, aid early development skills such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as a team.

Funded Childcare
We offer government funded places for children aged 3 to 4 years, please speak to the Centre Director for more information.

Teacher
We have a fully qualified Teacher in our pre-school room who delivers exciting learning opportunities, whilst ensuring statutory and legal welfare requirements are met for every child.

Foundation Class
The foundation class nurtures each child's natural curiosity within a structured framework providing pre-school children with an early introduction to school life.

ParentZone
We keep families informed through ParentZone, an online learning journal platform, which can be accessed via a smartphone app.

UP
Exclusive to Busy Bees, UP is a learning and development app used by educators in our nursery and parents at home. Search ‘UP by Busy Bees’ on the app store to find out more.

Food at Busy Bees at Derby Oakwood Bishops Drive

Getting healthy, nutritious food into the mouths of little ones can be a challenge! We understand appetites vary from child to child, which is why we try our best to provide varied food options throughout the week and change our menu seasonally. 

Even better, the fees you pay includes all meals, drinks, and snacks, all of which are prepared on-site by our nursery chef and follow the NHS-Startwell programme, encouraging healthy eating habits. .

Breakfast

Fresh fruit with a selection of cereal or porridge. 

Morning Snack

Fresh fruit with wholemeal toast or baked goods, with a cup of milk or water.

Lunch 

Vegetable spring roll with plum sauce, followed by Chinese-style orange chicken or tofu with egg noodles and broccoli, with a cup of water. 

Afternoon Snack

Fresh fruit or vegetable sticks, served with a cup of milk or water. 

Early Evening Snack 

Turkey or hummus and tomato sandwiches served with cucumber sticks followed by a banana, with a cup of water.

Busy Bees Nursery Derby Location

Situated in the residential area of Oakwood, Derby, set back off Bishops Drive our Busy Bees nursery is conveniently located next to a shopping precinct and a Doctor’s surgery. The nursery is close to the A38 and A52 for easy commuting to Derby and Nottingham and a bus stop outside the nursery is served by local routes into Derby city centre. Parking is available outside on the main road, but parents can also use the large shopping centre free car park at the rear of the nursery for easy drop-offs and pick-ups.
