Why You Will Love Our Nursery

St Albans Nursery and Montessori Pre-school provide GOOD childcare as reported by OFSTED in 2013. We are looking forward to our next inspection to demonstrate our commitment and continual improvement.

Hatfield Road was established in 2001 and is a two-storey building which provides a homely environment for all. The nursery has recently under gone a complete refurbishment with all brand new toys and equipment in every room. We provide GOOD childcare for up to 65 children a day from 3 months to 5 years in a friendly, welcoming home from home setting.

The staff team are passionate about the care they give the children and the customer care the parents receive. The staff are committed to ensure a delivery of a range of indoor activities that promote the developmental stages and interests of the individual child. The children are encouraged to make choices creating opportunities to engage in activities that will promote the social development of children’s language and communication, creativity, individuality and to develop interest in books.

To see children grow from a baby and develop into young children from following their passion is always an achievement and we are always proud to see the children leave us to go to school.

Situated on Hatfield Road in St Albans, the nursery is within close proximity to London. The nursery is near to the main train stations and on commuter routes for the M1, M25, A414 and A582. We are located close to local parks which is ideal for trips for the children to explore.

Exceptional experiences in a superb environment

The Montessori approach allows children to discover things individually using all five senses and not just listening, watching and reading. Maria Montessori, the founder of Montessori learning, believed that children shouldn’t be pressurised at a young age and should learn at their own pace which she thought was much more effective for their future education.

The five key areas of in a Montessori education are:

  • Practical Life
  • Sensorial
  • Cultural
  • Language
  • Maths

These areas will be added to the current areas of learning that are on offer within the pre-school room, to further extend your child’s learning opportunities.

A Montessori Education

Practical Life – The Practical Life is to help the child gain control in the co-ordination of their child movement, and help the child to gain independence and adapt to their society.

Sensorial – The Sensorial is for the children to acquire clear, conscious information and to be able to understand their environment.

Language – The Language area is to develop the children’s powers to communicate and express what they are thinking. It also promotes the development of thought and enriches vocabulary in a number of ways.

Cultural – The Cultural area is to provide the children with knowledge of geography, history, general science, botany and zoology. The resources will allow children to explore their place in society and understand similarities between their own culture.

Maths – The Maths area allows the children to explore concepts such as pattern, sequence, order and symbolism. This helps to prepare children for counting and understanding the value of quantity.

The Montessori approach links to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through the use of learning cards. Learning cards cover the areas of learning within the EYFS and are used to support the children with a variety of activities and learning opportunities.

The Montessori approach will support your child so that they demonstrate excellent levels of positive social and behavioural development, giving them a strong sense of self-esteem. It is believed that children who have experienced the Montessori approach have a higher level of cognitive attainment at the age of 5, exceeding the national average.
