Why choose Busy Bees at Colton Mill: -
Our Nursery is a modern, bright, spacious and purpose built building with fantastic road links.
The nursery provides delicious home cooked food made in our on-site kitchen, with food which is nutritionally balanced and offering a healthy variety due to the 4 week rolling menus in place. We are also proud holders of a 5 star Hygiene rating from Environmental Health (last inspected in June 2011)
We provide a wonderful array of activities and events for all the children. Take a look through our ‘What’s on’ guide and News pages for a few examples of our monthly activities. We also offer music and singing classes in association with ABC Music and Me. We have our ‘Cooking with Me’ Initiative to involve the children with learning about cooking from the garden to the plate. We are also helping to get children active with our involvement in the Golden Mile Initiative in Support of The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust Charity and our ‘Wake and Shake’ Initiative.
As we opened in 2003, we are well established and equally well resourced. Our preschool also offers the perfect environment to help support your child with getting ready to start school. They have the use of PCs and an interactive Smart Board and take regular trips to local places of interest, such as leaf-picking in the Park in Autumn, trips to the Pantomime at Christmas, or looking at books in the Library during National Reading Week.
Your child’s health, care, enjoyment and interests are always at the forefront of everything we do. This is further demonstrated through us providing daily feedback through our Baby Diaries and our strong parent partnership relationships. Your child will have a dedicated key person responsible for their Learning Journal which tracks your child’s progress and development against the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum through progress reports and learning journeys. We also hold regular Parents’ Evenings.
We have a strong caring staff team who we’d love you to meet. Their qualifications range from NVQ level 2 through to degrees in Childhood Studies and many are now long serving members of the team here. Added to this we have a dedicated Health and Safety Coordinator on site, a dedicated SENCO and a dedicated Child Safeguarding Officer.
We also achieved a Good rating from Ofsted in August 2011.
Make an appointment to come along and see more for yourself today. You only want the best for the most precious little person in your life and we want to provide your child with the best.

Hello, I am the Nursery Manager, Julie.
I started at Colton Mill as a Nursery Assistant in the Preschool in 2005 and have since completed my Level 3 NVQ in Childcare Learning and Development and also a Foundation Degree in Childcare Learning and Development. I have also completed courses in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, Makaton, First Aid in the Workplace, Food Safety, Improving Learning Outdoors, Safeguarding Children level 1 & 2, and Behaviour Management. I successfully gained a promotion to Childcare Manager in 2009. I am also the Nursery’s Safeguarding Officer and I have also just completed Level 3 Supervising Food Safety.
We meet with our Parent Partnership Group here once every six months to discuss nursery life. We also talk through our progress with our continual strive to improve the service we offer and to enhance the opportunities available to every child here. We also operate an ‘open door’ office and welcome parents to chat with us about any questions or issues they have at any time. I am very passionate about children being at the centre of everything we do and endeavor to lead our team here with the same conviction.
