A Melrose nursery where the staff have created a ‘nurturing and high-quality environment for children’ has received a ‘Good’ rating following a Care Inspectorate visit.

The team at Busy Bees Melrose received a ‘Very Good’ rating for their leadership and staff team and a ‘Good’ rating for their care, play, learning and setting.

The team received recognition for ensuring ‘children were secure, confident and happy in the loving relationship they had formed with staff’, highlighting how the staff ‘recognised daily routines as a rich opportunity to promote close attachment’.

There was high praise from parents who say the nursery team is ‘truly exceptional, supportive and caring’, with one parent commenting that ‘it is a place full of love and happiness for staff and our children’. Parents also described the centre’s management team as ‘exceptional’ with the inspector outlining the management team’s commitment to fostering ‘creativity and engagement’.

Centre Director Sara Farquharson was happy to celebrate the achievement with her colleagues, saying: “We are over the moon to receive a ‘Very Good’ and ‘Good’ rating - this is a testament to our dedicated team who are committed to providing every child with the best start in life.

“Following our inspection last year, the team has worked tirelessly to turn things around through sharing best practices and increased training.

“We are especially pleased that the inspector noted our partnership with parents which has helped us foster a supportive and inclusive environment where every child can reach their full potential. We are looking forward to continuing to build on the solid foundation of quality we have in place, ensuring we can continue to provide high-quality care to children.”

The report describes how children attending the nursery ‘felt a sense of importance’ and ‘opportunities for children’s play and learning were enhanced through strong connections to the local community’ including collaborations with hospitals and schools.

Health and wellbeing are a key priority for the centre, with children and families central to this process ensuring consistent and continuity of care. Children also enjoy the ‘delicious and nutritious’ NHS-accredited meals in a relaxed atmosphere, ensuring a ‘caring and positive social experience’.
