Kids 1st  Ashbrooke Sunderland achieved its second Outstanding Ofsted report in recognition of the quality of care and education it provides for more then 100 children.

The Gorse Road centre was praised for its staff going above and beyond to support children and their families.

Inspectors commented on how staff develop children’s independence skills ‘exceptionally well’ as they progress through the nursery and in preparation for the move on to school.

Centre Director Bekki Grimes said: “Everyone is thrilled to achieve a second Outstanding grade. Our team are committed to giving every child the best start in life and it is wonderful to see this recognised by the inspector.

“We are particularly pleased that our relationships with parents was highlighted in the report, as we believe that partnership is vital for our children.”

The inspector noted that staff develop ‘excellent’ relationships with parents, going ‘out of their way to provide reassurance as children settle’. Parents told the inspector that they value being able to borrow resource packs from the nursery to support developmental stages such as toilet training.

The centre was commended on the ‘excellent progress’ children make in their communication and language skills, with staff focusing ‘particularly well on developing children’s vocabulary’.

The Ofsted report notes that ‘children demonstrate very high levels of engagement’, and that those with special educational needs and/or disabilities are ‘exceptionally well supported’, including staff using funding effectively to give children learning opportunities they may not otherwise access.

Centre Director Bekki Grimes was praised by the inspector for providing ‘high quality advice and support to staff’ to help them become ‘valued and inspiring’ members of the team.
