The children and nursery team at Busy Bees Droitwich are celebrating after achieving a prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
The award is an international accreditation for nurseries and schools that demonstrate excellence in environmental action and learning, and a commitment to sustainability.
The nursery achieved a ‘Distinction’ after successfully completing the Eco-Schools seven-step framework. This included delivering impactful eco-projects that make their nursery more sustainable and increase environmental learning and building an eco-club to lead sustainable projects and deliver eco-themed learning experiences.
The Droitwich nursery was commended for their commitment to fostering children’s appreciation for nature and the environment, utilising their Forest School to create a rewilding and bug garden. They were also recognised for their development of energy-saving habits and eco-learning activities, such as creating a pollinator garden, litter picking and learning about responsible resource usage.
Lucy Price, Centre Director at Busy Bees Droitwich, said: “We are over the moon to have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by both our children and nursery team over the past year have been truly inspiring, they have wholeheartedly embraced every chance to make a lasting impact on the environment.
“This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from our children, staff, and families, whose efforts have been vital to our success. We look forward to continuing this journey, driving more sustainable initiatives that will benefit our children and future generations.”
The nursery team also reinforced their commitment to the environment by aligning with Busy Bees’ wider sustainability goals including contributing to Busy Bees’ energy, carbon and waste targets and reducing single-use plastics.
