Cares for children aged

0 - 5 years

Welcome to our nursery...

You will find us at the west end of Queen Street in between Charlotte Square and Moray Place. We are ideally situated in the heart of Edinburgh in a beautiful five storey Georgian townhouse in a quiet cul de sac which ensures safety for children. The nursery is registered with the Care Commission to accommodate 85 children from 3 months to 5 years old. We offer a home from home environment  in which children can feel safe and secure. The nursery, which has been established for 12 years, is surrounded by lovely parks and gardens which the children use daily.

Nursery Rooms

We have a stunning Baby Room on the ground floor which is warm and cosy as well as being light and airy. Our baby room can care for 12 babies with 4 key staff, and caters for babies between 3 and 12 months.

The Toddler Room can be found in a lovely light, well resourced room on the lower ground floor and offers care for 9 children aged 12 to 18 months. It has a separate sleep room and kitchen and there are 3 key staff.

Our Tweenle Room has a beautiful conservatory and opens up into the nursery garden. In the Tweenie Room we can care for 12 children aged 18-24 months. It offers a wide range of opportunities for play and learning.  There are 4 key staff in this room.

The Junior Room on the first floor is a very bright and airy room which offers more structured  activities for children aged 2 – 3 years old. As this is the largest room in the nursery we can care for up to 20 children in this room and there are 4 key staff.

Our Ante-Preschool room is also on the first floor and is well resourced with activities and opportunities for children to evidence their participation in the Curriculum for Excellence. This is a small group of between 8 to 12 children and there are 2 key staff.

The Preschool children are on the second floor and here you will see evidence of them covering more areas of the Curriculum for Excellence with our Teacher. These children have many learning opportunities both inside and outside of nursery. We can care for a maximum of 20 children with 3 key staff.

The nursery has a lovely outdoor play area with a purpose built play cottage and planting area as well as a paved area for sand and water play. The children also have regular access to the beautiful Moray Place private gardens where there are lots of opportunities to run about and investigate the environment.

All our staff are fully qualified with a couple of trainees who are working towards a relevant qualification in childcare and education. We have monthly in-house training and a comprehensive training programme for personal development.

New Town Nursery Too is a member of NDNA (Scotland). We are inspected annually by the Care Inspectorate. We are a partnership nursery able to offer a grant to all preschool children and are annually audited by The City of Edinburgh Council Education Department. We are also annually inspected by Environmental Health and regularly inspected by The Fire Department.

Why you'll love our nursery...

Our Ethos

We believe children learn as they play and will learn better if they feel safe and secure in their surroundings. The environment we have created is a happy, relaxed one, which will help towards boosting each child’s self confidence. The activities we offer are exciting and stimulating to ensure the children are never bored. The nursery day is carefully balanced between free play activities, which are times when the children choose what they would like to play with in their room and structured play activities, which are times when small staff led groups participate in specific play i.e. painting, clay modelling, baking, counting games, spaghetti play etc.

We also place a huge emphasis on outdoor play and fresh air. All children go out twice a day at 11.00 a.m. and again at 2.00 p.m.

What our customers say about us

Shelley K.

New Town Nursery Too is a special place. The staff make this nursery what it is, they are all so kind and caring. When I drop my little one off I know he is in safe hands and my mind is at ease while I am at work which is a massive relief for working parents.

My son loves going to nursery here. He clearly enjoys the activities and has a great bond with the staff and his friends at the nursery.
