Generous parents and staff from Kids 1st Wynyard nursery in Billingham are raising funds for the survivors of the Turkey-Syria earthquake with an online auction of some prized sporting memorabilia.
Centre director Abi Tasker, who has family in the region, has organised the auction to support the UNICEF appeal which is working to help children affected by the disaster.
Abi said: “As someone who has regularly visited the region, my heart went out to those children traumatised by this awful event.
“My team and I wanted to do something to help so we put a call out to the wonderful parents at our nursery and they came through with some fantastic auction and raffle prizes.”
Star items on offer through the nursery’s Facebook page are a Durham Cricket Club signed bat also signed by England player Scott Borthwick, a Kevin De Bruyne signed Manchester City football shirt with certificate of authenticity and a tooth whitening gift voucher and sonic toothbrush kit.
The online auction runs until midnight on 30 June 2023, with all funds going direct to the UNICEF appeal.
The centre will also be organising a raffle to raise further funds.
Abi Tasker added: “UNICEF are working to ensure children in the region are safe and secure, with access to suitable shelter, clean water and nutrition, as well as caring for their education and wellbeing.
“We are fortunate to have amazingly generous parents and staff here at Kids 1st Wynyard, and we hope the online auction will give the UNICEF appeal a huge boost.”
