Busy Bees Nursery at Derby Oakwood Bishops Drive received a special visit this week from the Mayor of the City of Derby, Councillor Ajit Singh Atwell, marking a special moment in the nursery’s commitment to supporting the local community.
During the visit on Tuesday 2nd February, the Mayor met with children, families, and staff to see first-hand the incredible range of donations collected over recent months. Thanks to the generosity of families and the dedication of the nursery team, the nursery has been able to donate essential items to a local food bank in Kirk Hallam.
Over 500 donations were made including cupboard staples, pet food and nappies. The nursery has also supported local deprived secondary schools by collecting sanitary resources to help young girls who may struggle to access these essentials or feel unable to ask for support.
Chloe Moore, Centre Director at Busy Bees Derby Oakwood Bishops Drive, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Mayor to our nursery and share the amazing work our families, children, and team have been involved in. This initiative has been about more than donations - it’s been about teaching kindness, empathy, and the importance of helping others. Seeing the children take pride in giving back has been incredibly heartwarming.”
