Busy Bees in Edgbaston is a large two storey building that opened in 2002 and it is conveniently located close to Five Ways Island and Broad Street. The nursery is ideally situated on both bus and train routes in to Birmingham city centre and it has a secure entrance that only allows parents in with a key fob.
The nursery is split into 3 units for the different age groups we have our Baby unit which is for our 0-2yrs, our Toddler room which is for our 2-3yrs and the Pre-School room which is for our 3-5yrs. Our last Ofsted report in September 2015 was stated as Good.
We have a very dedicated staff team who are all qualified to level 2 and above and some of the staff also hold a BA (hons) in Early Childhood Studies. We also encourage all of our team to continue their development and training through our head office and Birmingham City Council. We also ensure that at least 50% of our staff team are qualified in Paediatric First aid and Food Safety at all times. Most of our team have been with us for at least a couple of years if not longer and the Manager has worked for the company for 16 years.
We have very good connections with our local SENCO team and health visitors and we work alongside them to ensure that all our children are receiving the best care for their individual needs. We have recently also employed a registered nurse who works with the Birmingham Busy Bees and she will work with the children and parents regarding health related topics as well as being on hand for staff and parents medical advice.
Busy Bees have also introduced a variety of initiatives to their nurseries and we are fortunate enough to have some of these in our rooms. We have ‘Busy Babies’ in our baby unit, ‘Our Imagination Station’ in our toddler room and Science and ‘Cooking with Me’ areas in our pre-school room. The whole nursery also takes part in ‘Wake and Shake’ in the morning which is an inspirational dance to get the body and brain functioning together.
In order to involve our parents and the outside community more in nursery life we try to organise a variety of special days and visits throughout the year. We will have visits from the animal man, the local library, the bhangra man, Mad Science, crossing patrol, police and firemen, as well as having various celebrations in nursery for Mother’s/Father’s/Grandparent’s day and a summer fete. We also try to visit our local old peoples home and church throughout the year to join in with celebrations.
Our dedicated chef Tony prepares all of the children’s meals and all the menus are nutritionally valued to ensure that our children are getting all the vitamins and nutrients that their bodies need to grow. The menus rotate on a seasonal and three weekly basis and they include a variety of delicious meals.

Very happy with Theo’s new room, after only a week he is settled so well and never wants to leave. Really pleased he has sat on the potty already.

Just wanted to drop you a line to say how happy I am with the nursery and how the nursery staff have dealt with the Celene’s settling in and first full days. I was quite apprehensive about sending her into nursery setting but the staff have put us all totally at ease and Celene is really enjoying it. - Hayley
I just wanted to express how pleased I am with the members of staff that have been working and caring for my son, I have noticed a huge development right from his emotional awareness to his speech development and social awareness. - Mommy
