Staff and children at Busy Bees Chester Hopscotch are celebrating after securing a fourth Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating.

The 76-place nursery on Parkgate Road was praised for creating a ‘nurturing and stimulating nursery’ where children of all ages flourish. The Ofsted inspectors’ comments followed an inspection on 22 March.

The centre’s staff were commended for supporting children of all ages – from their ‘particularly sensitive, kind and nurturing’ care for babies to the ‘bespoke school readiness curriculum that ensures children develop essential skills for future learning’.

Sofia Kokkla, Centre Director at Busy Bees Chester Hopscotch, said: “We are thrilled to secure our fourth Outstanding rating, an amazing testament to the dedication of my experienced and dedicated team of early years educators.

“We were especially pleased with the inspector’s comments about our approach to inclusivity and how we support every child to enjoy the very best start in life.”

The inspector noted that children’s individuality was ‘warmly celebrated’ with staff teaching children key words and phrases in sign language to ensure they could communicate with all their friends and ‘develop firm friendships’. This sensitivity creates a ‘wonderful sense of belonging’ helping children to ‘have exceptionally elevated levels of self-esteem and self-assurance’.

Children who speak English as an additional language are ‘superbly supported’ with parents visiting the nursery to read stories in their home languages, helping to broaden children’s awareness of other cultures and the wider world.

The partnership with parents is described as ‘robust and highly successful’ with parent workshops ensuring ‘collaborative working that impacts tremendously on outcomes for children’. Parents are consulted at every opportunity and express delight at the ‘exemplary care’ their children receive.

The inspector also commented on the nursery leaders’ ambitious and inspirational plans to develop a community allotment with the children, a vision that would provide free produce for local residents in response to the cost-of-living crisis.
