Busy Bees Shenley Nursery welcomed award-winning children’s author, Laura Henry-Allain MBE, this week (Monday 11th August) as part of its commitment to supporting children’s early literacy skills.
Aligned with the nursery’s Bee Curious curriculum, which is designed to foster a lifelong love of learning, the creator of the beloved series, JoJo and Gran Gran, captivated children with a reading of her latest book; Maya and Marley-and the Great Big Tidy Up.
The story, which promotes empathy and caring for the world, allowed the children to explore their emotions, caring for the environment and imaginative play.
Yanique Arabambi, Centre Director at Busy Bees Shenley Radlett, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Laura Henry-Allain MBE to our nursery. Many of our families are huge fans of Laura and it was heartwarming to see the children’s faces light up as she brought her stories to life.
“Storytelling is a key part of our Bee Curious curriculum which is designed to foster a lifelong love of learning, and a love of reading and books from a young age. This special visit aligned with our commitment to supporting children’s early literacy skills through playful and engaging experiences. Thank you for the visit Laura, our families really enjoyed it!”
Laura Henry-Allain MBE is an award-winning international storyteller and educationalist producer. She is the creator of the well-loved, award-winning first Black British Animation, JoJo and Gran Gran global series, developed and produced by CBeebies.
Laura Henry-Allain MBE, added: “It was very inspiring to deliver an author’s visit at Busy Bees in Shenley, Radlett. A family member attends this branch and naturally I said yes to a visit. I chatted with the children, parents and staff about the importance of reading books and, more importantly, how valuable it is for children to visit their local library. I personally signed a copy of Maya and Marley and the Great Big Tidy Up. I shared the Ladybird Books; Early Years reading timeline, that I wrote and gifted the nursery the Reading is Everywhere poster to display and use as a talking point with parents to support the reading in the home environment.”
