Families at Busy Bees Weston-Super-Mare nursery are celebrating a remarkable turnaround after the nursery transformed its Ofsted rating from ‘‘Inadequate’ to a ‘Good’ in just five months – a proud achievement driven by a renewed focus on children’s learning, strong partnerships with parents and the dedication of a long-serving early years team.

At the heart of the transformation is devoted early years manager, Rebecca Quartley, whose commitment to giving children the best start in life has reshaped the nursery since she joined last April. Within weeks of her arrival, the team achieved a ‘Good’ Ofsted and were praised for improving the ‘quality of care and education children receive’.

With over 12 years of early years experience, Rebecca is supported by a team with over 50 years of collective experience who were recognised by Ofsted for being ‘attentive to children’s needs’ and working with parents to provide ‘continuity of care’, mirroring their ‘individual routines from home and working together to offer consistent support for children’.

The ‘motivated and inspired’ team have been supported by Rebecca who has built a strong sense of belonging for the team, including regular coaching and employee of the month initiatives, ensuring staff feel valued and supported to provide children with joyful learning experiences in a home-from-home environment.

The Ofsted report commended the team for supporting children’s communication and language development, with staff promoting stories to enhance children’s language and literacy skills. They were also recognised for supporting children’s independence from a young age, encouraging children to wash their own hands and complete tasks before asking for help to support children’s confidence in preparing them for school.

Rebecca Quartley, Centre Director at Weston-Super-Mare, said: “I am incredibly proud of the team and everything we have achieved in such a short time. Our Ofsted results reflect our shared commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment where children can flourish.

“We place great importance on strengthening our relationships with parents and fostering a positive workplace, and we wouldn’t be here today without the support of the team and our families. We’re looking forward to building on our success so that every child in our care receives the very best early years education.”

Parents have praised the ‘positive improvements’ that the nursery has made. These include seasonal parent packs for families to take home including healthy eating guides and activities, a lending library to support their love of reading at home, bi-annual parents’ evenings and frequent updates on its Busy Bees app to keep parents connected to their child’s day.

Katy Horton, a parent whose son attends the nursery located on Bransby Way, said: “Since Becka joined Busy Bees in April, I feel the nursery has gone from strength to strength. She has been extremely approachable, honest, and has restored my confidence in the care that my child receives.

“The staff seem confident, happy and knowledgeable. They implement high-quality activities and have formed excellent relationships with my son making his transition to pre-school supportive. My son is happy, stimulated and has made clear leaps in his development.”
