Busy Bees Nursery at Lewes, has been praised by Ofsted for providing an enriching learning environment where children feel ‘happy, safe and secure’, achieving a ‘Strong Standard’ in Behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines as well as Children’s welfare and wellbeing under the Ofsted inspection framework.

Located on St James Street, the Lewes nursery was commended for fostering ‘meaningful bonds’ with every child in its care. Inspectors highlighted the team’s kind and gentle approach, noting how staff consistently meet the needs of all children at every stage of their development.

The nursery team was recognised for its strong key-person approach, helping children to ‘thrive and develop a sense of belonging’, supporting their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Inspectors also noted that children build ‘positive relationships with each other’ and treat each other with kindness.

Led by Centre Director Jack, who has over 15 years of experience, the nursery is supported by an experienced team with over 100 years of service between them.

Jack Peacock, Centre Director at Busy Bees at Lewes, said: “We are incredibly proud of Our Ofsted result which is a testament to our wonderful team and their dedication to creating safe, enriching environments where children can flourish and grow in confidence. We look forward to building on our success and continuing to support children’s learning and development, ensuring every child receives the best start in life.”

At the heart of the nursery’s approach is its Bee Curious curriculum, designed to nurture children’s natural curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning. Ofsted commended the team for creating a ‘child-centred’ curriculum that responds to focusing on supporting children’s emotional health alongside academic skills. Inspectors further praised the nursery’s support for adapting the curriculum to support disadvantaged children, those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Parent partnerships were also highlighted, with families expressing how pleased they are with the progress their children are making and that staff go the extra mile to make them feel welcomed.

Busy Bees at Lewes provides exceptional early years education for over 50 children aged three months to five years. It also provides NHS-accredited menus, with nutritious meals freshly prepared every day on-site by the nursery’s chef. Ofsted noted that ‘children thoroughly enjoy a highly nutritious menu of home-cooked foods and snacks’ and ‘babies learn to be highly independent in feeding and are praised for using a spoon and trying new foods.’
