Meet the team

Clare Howard

Nursery Manager

I have been working in childcare for 18 years. I began by training to become a primary school teacher but during my training decided that it just wasn't for me. I then started running a creche at a local leisure centre for the under 5's and it was here that I decided I would love to work with nursery age children.

I qualified in 1999 and have never looked back. Helping to support and develop children through play before they go to school is what I have a real passion for and the team at Lewes have got the same passions and ideas as I do.

Julie Hazell
Assistant Manager

My name is Julie and I am the Assistant Manager based in Pre School. I am level 3 qualified and have been working in childcare for 21 years. I love arts and crafts and messy activities and feel that children learn a lot from engaging in these activities. Outdoor play is vital and I make sure that all children have access to the outdoors every day. I am a true believer in the saying "there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad planning!" I am also the nursery SENCO and Childcare rep

Hi my name is Julie and I am the nursery Chef. I have worked in Busy Bees for 14 years. I love cooking and enjoy making lots of different foods for the children. I also go into the rooms and do cooking activities with them. We often have themed days and I enjoy making alternative foods to work along with the theme - for example on pirate day we had octopus dip, pirate pasta, crab croisants and treasure cupcakes!

I am the lunch time support at Lewes and have a NVQ level 2. I love storytelling with the children and using role play to explore characters and invite creativity and imagination. Gardening is a great passion of mine and together the children and I have grown vegetables to be used in our delicious food. The children really appreciate the connection with nature and healthy eating and love to see the fruit and vegetables grow.

Emily Gage
Qualified Early Years Educator

Hi, my name is Emily and I work in pre school with the 3-5yr old children. It is a great age group and no 2 days are ever the same!! I absolutely love to provide big messy activities where the children can get fully involved, using their whole body to explore and create. This year is the first time that I have had children leave to go to school and it has been emotional and rewarding at the same time seeing how ready they are for their next step.
