Why You Will Love Our Nursery

Busy Bees at Leyton Road is a 55 place nursery set on two levels in a converted house. The nursery is very easily accessible from Harpenden train station, which is only a five minute walk away. There are pushchair storage facilities available for those wanting to walk to the train station. The nursery is also within easy reach of both St Albans and Luton town centres. We are very close to the local park, dentist and library. This means that the children can experience outings whilst at nursery.

We have a very strong staff team working at Leyton Road. The staff are a mixture of NVQ Level 3 to 5 qualified early years educators and also staff who are studying towards their NVQ’s. The manager of the nursery has a level 4 in Leadership Capability and an NNEB.

The staff are consistently trained in various aspects of childcare, Busy Bees offer their own in house training to staff, these include such courses as Safeguarding Children and Paediatric First Aid.

Kershnie our nursery chef provides all the children with two fresh, healthy and nutritious meals a day, which are prepared on site. The children also get breakfast in the morning and two snacks during the day.

So that we can keep the parents fully informed of new things going on in the nursery we have set up a Parent Partnership Group. The idea of this is for parents to improve the service we provide by giving ideas for the nursery. They can go to a representative who will then relay the information onto management, improving relationships with parents and creating a strong bond with families.

Leyton Road was rated as ‘GOOD’ in our last Ofsted inspection. ‘Staff ensure that children have access to a good range of resources so that children receive experiences that promote their progress overall, as well as being enjoyable and fun’

Meet the Team

Emma Robinson

Nursery Manager

I have worked for Busy Bees for nearly 20 years, starting as a newly qualified  Nursery Nurse ( Diploma in Nursery Nursing)at Busy Bees Rothamsted Lodge in 1995.

I soon developed and progressed to become the Manager of the nursery there in 2000. After having my second child in 2006 I then transferred to become manager of Busy Bees Leyton Road. I developed my career by achieving the Level 3 in Management in 2007 and then awarded the Certificate of Lifelong Learning in Leadership capability 2011.

I took a brief spell between July 2014 to March 2015 to work in the Busy Bees Training Department and then returned to the nursery where my passion is. I am very proud of the nursery where I am dedicated and love every minute of my day, caring for and nurturing the children and staff. No two days are ever the same at the nursery and that is due to the fun environment that my self and the staff provide for the children.

When I am not at the nursery I enjoy spending time with my family, on days out, with my wonderful two children.

Our Pre-school Academy activities include ICT, languages, numeracy, literacy, cooking, building and construction, role play, story time, music, PE and sports, arts and crafts - plus much more.

We hold regular assemblies, circle time and show and tell sessions to encourage our children to share their views and opinions with others, helping them to develop their communication skills as well as their confidence and self-esteem.

Each child is assigned a dedicated Key Person, who is responsible for ensuring their individual interests and needs are met and their skills developed. We have enhanced child to staff ratios in our pre-school rooms, ensuring that there is always at least one qualified staff member for every eight children, an added benefit compared to schools who have one to every 12.

To further enhance preparation for school and independence with dressing, children in our Academy wear the Academy uniform.

Our large, welcoming rooms are fully equipped with modern, age appropriate toys and resources that keep children entertained, engaged and happy, with various small, focused areas of learning and play to help develop specific areas of development.
