Why You Will Love Our Nursery

Busy Bees Nottingham University Nursery opened its doors in October 2001 to general public, students and staff of the University to look after and educate children from birth to five.

The nursery is a single storey purpose built nursery situated close to the QMC with easy access onto the A52.

We have 5 spacious rooms which are bright and welcoming. We also have individual gardens suited to the age range of the children; all gardens have soft surfaced flooring and fencing around to enable a safe and secure environment.

We have an open door policy allowing parents to come and go as they please. Prospective parents are more than welcome to drop in as no appointment is necessary.

We have many long serving staff members that have been here for over 5 years and understand the importance of providing a warm, friendly and caring environment for parents and their children to feel settled. This shows what a dedicated team we have, who are dedicated to the childcare profession and strive to ensure each child is happy and well cared for.
Our Staff are supported from an excellent training department within our head office team. Staff hold qualifications ranging from NVQ2 to NVQ 4, 75% of staff are qualified to Level 3 or above.

Being on the Nottingham University Campus sees the nursery with a wide range of cultures allowing us to celebrate festivals throughout the year and ensuring children’s individual beliefs are valued.

The children are provided with a healthy and nutritious balanced diet which is prepared and cooked daily at the nursery by our experienced chef. We have received the highest rating from the Environmental Health of 5 stars during our audit.

We provide daily feedback, progress reports, learning journeys and regular parents’ evenings.

The nursery offers funding for children aged 2 years as well as the nursery education funding for 3 – 5 year olds.

Meet the Team

Lauren Jackman

Nursery Manager

Hello, welcome to Busy Bees at Nottingham University. My name is Lauren, I have worked for Busy Bees since 2002 and I qualified in 2000 gaining my NNEB qualification in childcare. I have seen the nursery grow and become an established nursery which offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere to the children parents/ carers and staff.

I started here as a Room Manager and worked with all ages providing high quality childcare in the rooms. I then covered maternity cover 4 times as Assistant Manager and I felt that this helped me gain the knowledge and experience I needed to become a manager.

I have attended many training courses to develop my knowledge further and thoroughly enjoy my role as a manager especially liaising with parents and making them feel comfortable in leaving their children at nursery. As being a mother myself I can appreciate what all parents go through when choosing a nursery for their children.

I manage a team of 31 staff and I am strongly committed to the nursery and the team. The nursery team is like a big family, many of the staff team have been here over 5 years. Having such dedicated staff shows that they are committed to their work and are professional caring people. I am very proud to be part of this team and thoroughly enjoy my role in the nursery, watching children grow and achieve and develop their own personalities.

We have an open door policy so that existing parents can pop in for a chat at any time. We welcome visits for prospective parents and children, no appointment necessary, just come along and find out about all the exciting things we do.

Jenny Higgs

I am Jenny, mum to Benjamin Samuel and Jessica. Our relationship with Busy Bees began in the summer of 2011 after Sam was born prematurely. We were introduced to the nursery by our health visitor under the community initiative scheme, which allowed Ben to attend for two mornings a week for a period of weeks to give me a break.

"All along we have been impressed by the commitment and dedication that Busy Bees has to each and every child in their care. Nothing is ever too much, and every effort is made to reach each child’s potential. Being a full – time mum can be quite lonely, so I have always appreciated having a natter when I go to pick up the boys. With our third child due in January 2013, we are fully expecting our relationship with nursery to continue for a long time to come."

Katherine Calder

I'm Katherine, mum to Freya in Preschool 2 and Rowan in Tweenies. We've been with Busy Bees now for over 3 years and as soon as I visited Busy Bees I knew I'd found the nursery for us. I wasn't expecting to find somewhere where I'd feel that comfortable leaving Freya, but I can honestly say from day 1 I've had no qualms at all. Freya and Rowan love going to nursery and I think one of the main reasons for this is the friendliness and energy shown by all the staff who work there.

"We are very impressed with the commitment Busy Bees staff show to all the children and I enjoy having a chat with them when I pick the kids up - the staff seem genuinely interested in all aspects of Freya and Rowan's life (not just the time they spend with them). Freya (especially) and Rowan have never lacked confidence, but being at Busy Bees has helped to channel their energy and teach them how to play well with other children, no matter who they are."
