Why You Will Love Our Nursery

Busy Bees in Rothamsted Lodge provides GOOD childcare, as reported by Ofsted, (2013).

Busy Bees at Rothamsted Lodge is a beautiful nursery set in the rural area of Harpenden, with easy access to the M1 and walking distance from Harpenden train station. There is plenty of parking in the car park at the side of the nursery. We cater for 70 children per day in a home away from home setting.

The nursery has a total of four children’s base rooms catering for children from 3mths – 5years. The bottom floor consists of two children’s rooms which range in age from 3mths – 2years. The first floor also consists of two children’s rooms which range in age from 2 – 5years.

We have three main newly refurbished secure garden areas which consist of sand and water play, sensory walls, chalk boards, soft play and many more. The garden areas are broken down in to three age groups. The baby room (3 – 15mths) have a free-flow system from their room to their own secure garden area, the tot’s room (16mths – 2years) also have a free-flow system from their room to a secure garden area which they share with the toddler room (24 – 30mths). Big Pre-School (3 – 5years) have the biggest garden area. We also have an outside school room which is easily accessible to the Pre-School children throughout the year.

We have an exceptional staff team who are truly committed to providing the best quality of care for every child in the nursery. Staff regularly attend training through Busy Bees to further their knowledge of working in a nursery setting. There are also plenty of opportunities for staff to engage in NVQ training to enable them to further their development and careers.

Julia our Head Chef has worked at the nursery for over eight years. Julia is dedicated to providing a healthy, safe, nutritious and interesting menu for all the children. She is fully trained on catering for children with special dietary requirements.

The nursery also has a parent partnership group which meets quarterly. This group consists of representatives from each of the children’s rooms. These parents are a little more involved in diary dates throughout the year and supporting the nursery through fundraising events.

We also have a few initiatives we are implementing in the nursery. These are listed below in our facilities.

Meet the Team

Amanda Davidson

Nursery Manager

My Child Care career began when I started working as a nursery assistant at 17. With a keen interest in learning about children and their development, I went on to study Health and Social Care and Childcare and Education at college and then went on to complete a Certificate in Psychology at Southbank University.

In all aspects of my work, I endeavour to provide a high standard of quality care and specialist Early Years education.

I firmly believe that care and education are inseparable and a loving atmosphere fostered by good relationships between home and nursery helps a child feel happy, settled and secure in their life. With my years of experience and innate caring ability, I encourage and motivate my team to also promote this practice. The care and welfare of children is of utmost importance especially during their early stages of development, this I actively promote on a day to day basis.

I look forward to meeting you all and most importantly getting to know your children.

Parent Representatives for Busy Bees at Rothamsted Lodge

Esther Penketh

I work 5 days a week in HR for a media business. I have 2 children at Busy Bees Rothamsted Lodge: Lucy who is 4 and in the Pre-school Academy and Tom who is 2 and in the Tot's room. Both Lucy and Tom are really happy at Busy Bees Rothamsted Lodge and I would highly recommend the nursery to any prospective parents.

"What first struck me about Busy Bees Rothamsted Lodge, compared to other nurseries was how welcoming & friendly the staff were right from the first phone call to arrange a visit. The setting is lovely, especially with the new garden and there is a real sense of home from home. The long-standing team at Rothamsted Lodge are fantastic and I know that my children are receiving the best care. The range of activities for the children is also great. Lucy is now doing Football on a Wednesday."

Suzanne Cater

Hi, my name is Suzy and I have two child within the Nursery. My son's currently attends the Nursery for 2 days a week. I have Joey in the Tot's room and Aaran in the Pre-School Academy. I am really looking forward to helping and supporting new parents settle into the Nursery and offering my support with upcoming events.

"My boys have a great time at the nursery and I can relax knowing they are having fun and being well cared for. We chose Rothamsted Lodge partly for its situation - close to Harpenden station but located in beautiful countryside with great outdoor space - but mainly for the warmth and passion all members of staff show towards the children. They take a genuine interest in each child's well being and development. I would be happy to respond to any questions you may have."

Exceptional experiences in a superb environment

Our Pre-School Academy is tailor-made by our team of in-house childcare professionals and teachers to meet the emotional, social and physical needs of children aged between 3 and 5 years old. We work closely with a network of local schools and offer a range of resources that ensures that every child in our care experiences a seamless transition to reception or year 1 at your chosen school.

Through a stimulating and entertaining timetable filled with age appropriate activities, your child will be exposed to valuable learning opportunities every day which are in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Foundation Phase, and Curriculum for Excellence and National Care Standards.

Our Pre-school Academy activities include ICT, languages, numeracy, literacy, cooking, building and construction, role play, story time, music, PE and sports, arts and crafts - plus much more.

We hold regular assemblies, circle time and show and tell sessions to encourage our children to share their views and opinions with others, helping them to develop their communication skills as well as their confidence and self-esteem.

Each child is assigned a dedicated Key Person, who is responsible for ensuring their individual interests and needs are met and their skills developed. We have enhanced child to staff ratios in our pre-school rooms, ensuring that there is always at least one qualified staff member for every eight children, an added benefit compared to schools who have one to every 12.

To further enhance preparation for school and independence with dressing, children in our Academy wear the Academy uniform.

Our large, welcoming rooms are fully equipped with modern, age appropriate toys and resources that keep children entertained, engaged and happy, with various small, focused areas of learning and play to help develop specific areas of development.
