Why You Will Love Our Nursery

Busy Bees at Rothamsted Lodge is a beautiful nursery set in the rural area of Harpenden, with easy access to the M1 and walking distance from Harpenden train station. There is plenty of parking in the car park at the side of the nursery, with a ‘quick access’ drop off point located at the front of the nursery. We cater for 70 children per day in a friendly home away from home setting.

The nursery has a total of four children’s base rooms catering for children from 3mths – 5years.

The bottom floor consists of two children’s rooms; Babies and Tots, which range in age from 3mths – 2years. The first floor also consists of two children’s rooms; Toddlers and Preschool, which range in age from 2 – 5years.

We have three main newly refurbished secure garden areas which consist of sand and water play, sensory walls, chalk boards, soft play and much more! The garden areas are broken down into three age groups.

The baby room (3 – 18mths) have a free-flow system from their room to their own secure garden area, the tot’s room (18mths – 2years) also have a free-flow system from their room to a secure garden area which they share with the toddler room (24 – 30mths). Pre-School (3 – 5years) have the biggest garden area which houses an outside school room which is easily accessible to the Pre-School children throughout the year.

We have an exceptional staff team who are truly committed to providing the best quality of care for every child in the nursery. Staff regularly attend training through Busy Bees to further their knowledge of working in a nursery setting. There are also plenty of opportunities for staff to engage in NVQ training to enable them to further their development and careers.

Julia our Head Chef has worked at the nursery for over ten years. Julia is dedicated to providing a healthy, safe, nutritious and interesting menu for all the children. She is fully trained on catering for children with special dietary requirements and likes to get involved with the children when they do their ‘cook with me’ activities.

Here at Rothamsted Lodge we have a dedicated ‘partnerships with parents’ team which is made up from 3 parents, the manager and assistant manager. The team work well together to ensure the service the nursery provides is the best it can possibly be.

We also have lots of fun and exciting initiatives we are implementing in the nursery such as Wake and Shake, Super Sports, Spanish lessons and many more! More information on these can be found in our facilities.

Meet the Team

Sara Mufundisi

Nursery Manager

I began working at Busy Bees, Rothamsted Lodge in 2007 as a Nursery Nurse and completed my Level 3 in childcare in 2009. Since then I have followed my ambition to build my knowledge and experience to proudly become the Manager of Rothamsted Lodge.

During my time with Busy Bees I have transferred to other local nurseries to develop my understanding in different Senior roles. Partnership with parents is the key to a successful nursery to allow the children to have a home from home environment. Supporting each individual child to develop and grow has always been a real passion of mine.

I have patience and enthusiasm which allows me to support and teach the staff in the nursery to build a positive and motivated atmosphere for the staff, parents and children.

I am looking forward to welcoming you and your family to our friendly and stimulating nursery to discuss your individual requirements.

Amy Sevier

Hi, my name is Amy and I am currently on maternity leave with my son William. My daughter, Coco, attends nursery two days per week at the moment but this will be increasing to three days in November when I return to work and William will also start at Rothamsted Lodge. Coco started in the baby room (4 days per week), is currently in tots, and is transitioning to toddlers shortly.

"I chose Rothamsted Lodge because of the close age range and smaller number of children in each room making it more of a home from home setting. I felt this would make it easier for my children to build strong relationships with both staff and their playmates. Coco has been so happy at nursery that I have full confidence in the staff to ensure that William will settle easily and enjoy his time too. The gardens are also fantastic!"

Being born at the Red House in Harpenden means I am truly born and bred in Harpenden. My family have lived in Harpenden all their lives and interestingly many of them being brought up in Hatching Green. I am a keen runner and am proud to say I completed the London Marathon in 2014. My daughter Hope, came into the world on New Years Day 2015 and has kept me busy ever since.

"Hope attends busy bees 4 days a week and loves every minute!"

I work 5 days a week in HR for a media business. I have 2 children, one at Busy Bees; Tom who is 3 and in the Pre-school Academy. Tom is really happy at Busy Bees Rothamsted Lodge and I would highly recommend the nursery to any prospective parents.

"What first struck me about Busy Bees Rothamsted Lodge, compared to other nurseries was how welcoming and friendly the staff were right from the first phone call to arrange a visit. The setting is lovely, especially with the new garden and there is a real sense of home from home. The team at Rothamsted Lodge are fantastic and I know that my children are receiving the best care. The range of activities for the children is also great."

Exceptional experiences in a superb environment

Our Pre-School Academy is tailor-made by our team of in-house childcare professionals and teachers to meet the emotional, social and physical needs of children aged between 3 and 5 years old. We work closely with a network of local schools and offer a range of resources that ensures that every child in our care experiences a seamless transition to reception or year 1 at your chosen school.

Through a stimulating and entertaining timetable filled with age appropriate activities, your child will be exposed to valuable learning opportunities every day which are in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Foundation Phase, and Curriculum for Excellence and National Care Standards.

Pre School Academy 3
Pre School Academy 2
Our Pre-school Academy activities include ICT, languages, numeracy, literacy, cooking, building and construction, role play, story time, music, PE and sports, arts and crafts - plus much more.

We hold regular assemblies, circle time and show and tell sessions to encourage our children to share their views and opinions with others, helping them to develop their communication skills as well as their confidence and self-esteem.

Each child is assigned a dedicated Key Person, who is responsible for ensuring their individual interests and needs are met and their skills developed. We have enhanced child to staff ratios in our pre-school rooms, ensuring that there is always at least one qualified staff member for every eight children, an added benefit compared to schools who have one to every 12.

To further enhance preparation for school and independence with dressing, children in our Academy wear the Academy uniform.

Our large, welcoming rooms are fully equipped with modern, age appropriate toys and resources that keep children entertained, engaged and happy, with various small, focused areas of learning and play to help develop specific areas of development.
