5 Rainy Day Activities in Salisbury

Back to the Hive of Knowledge

Live in (or near) Salisbury? Eager to spend some quality time together as a family that doesn’t involve raincoats, wellies, and the regular strategic deployment of hot chocolate? We’ve got you.

Whether you’re soaking up some culture with a museum visit or teasing bored brains with an escape room adventure, there are plenty of family-friendly activities in Salisbury, guaranteed to banish the rainy-day blues and occupy curious minds of all ages.

A modern city with a rich, diverse history, Salisbury is packed with fun things to do as a family that are engaging, educational, and (crucially) won’t cost the earth.

With that in mind, we’ve pulled together a few activities in Salisbury, including museum visits, escape room hijinks and more.

1. Salisbury Museum

At over 800 years old (you read that right), Salisbury is a city steeped in history. And there’s no better place to expose curious minds to that history than Salisbury Museum.

A stunning, grade-1 listed building sat opposite the iconic Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury Museum is bursting with artefacts, exhibits, and interactive displays spanning the history of the city, from the medieval to the modern.

They even host regular family learning sessions, covering everything from arts and crafts to archery, all overseen by friendly, knowledgeable staff and volunteers.

A cinematic and a historical icon Mompesson House is a stunning Queen Anne townhouse, featuring period-accurate furnishings galore, setting the stage for an engaging, educational family activity in Salisbury.

It’s never too early to expose your little ones to a slice of history, and they’ll love exploring the expertly curated space like tiny time travellers.

There’s even an interactive Regency-era-themed scavenger hunt, designed to delight little ones and guide them through the experience. (But don’t pretend you won’t do it, too.)

An interactive experience designed to serve as a brain-teaser and spot of immersive role play, the Salisbury Escape Room is a feast for the mind and the senses alike.

But we wouldn’t suggest things to do in Salisbury that aren’t family-friendly, so rest assured that the experience is designed with families in mind – you just may need to encourage and support little ones as they puzzle out the clues.

4.Jumpin Fun Inflatable Park

The park caters to children of all ages, with dedicated sessions for toddlers on Thursdays and Fridays, between 10:00 – 12:00. There’s even a free session for SEN children on the last Sunday of each month, between 17:00 – 18:00.
