Today, we’re catching up with Hannah Jackson, our Level 3 Early Years Educator at our Birmingham Kings Heath nursery. Hannah has been motivated by the chance to make a positive impact on the children she cares for and becoming a role model for her fellow apprentices.
I chose a career in early years because I am passionate about working with children and helping them learn and grow. I enjoy creating activities around children’s interests to make it fun and engaging. Being able to work in different rooms, supporting all age groups from babies to preschool, is another reason that I chose a career in early years.
This apprenticeship has extended my knowledge on the Early Years Framework and I have been able to put this new knowledge into practice by supporting each individual child. I’m excited to continue developing my skills and make a positive impact on the children I care for. I plan to be a role model for fellow apprentices in my setting.
I would recommend an apprenticeship in Early Years after completing my Level 3 because it helps you keep learning while working in a real nursery setting. You are not just learning from books, you are gaining daily hands-on experience with children, which helps you build confidence and improve your practice.
An apprenticeship allows you to develop your professional skills further, such as supporting children’s learning, behaviour management, safeguarding, and working in partnership with parents and other professionals. This makes you a stronger and more knowledgeable practitioner. You can put theory into practice straight away, which helps you understand it better and remember it more clearly. It also helps you meet the needs of children better. As you learn more about child development, inclusion, SEND, and safeguarding, you become more confident in planning activities that support each child’s individual needs. This improves the quality of care and education you provide.
