Continuing our National Apprenticeship Week celebrations, we meet Mia Whinfield who has recently progressed to a Level 3 Early Years Educator at our Derby Silvertrees Nursery. Over the course of her apprenticeship, she has grown in confidence and is passionate about giving children a positive start in life, helping them feel supported, safe, and inspired every day.
I chose a career in early years because I wanted to support children to develop new skills. I enjoy watching the children grow into small independent children.
You need key attributes to work in early years; I work well within a team and have good communication skills which are key as you will deal with lots of different situations. You need to be reliable and trustworthy. I have a caring nature, and I love being creative with children, which you will get to do on a daily basis.
I have grown in confidence through undertaking my apprenticeships; I now confidently create activities for children to support them with their development. I have the knowledge to be able to explain why and how activities will help support the children’s development. Once I complete my level 3, I will consider completing my level 5. I am excited to continue to develop my skills and make a positive start to children’s lives!
